If so, how may this be changed for the better? A proportion of them are managed by entrepreneurial women.

They are a big portion of the IGP; even more of them are no registered as a formal business. If we check their history through the years they keep themselves with few o non changes. Why is this? It is just a financial problem? It has to be because lack of new products? It is because their try to exist doing the same on the traditional way? Don’t misunderstand me, tradition is good but can be improved, I think… So why some of those businesses just can move on? Even they have great enthusiasm and ideas…
In agriculture, there are goods that remain local and small, partly, we suspect, because moving them a bit far away enhances their perishability. Your question is interesting, though. We guess you wonder why small informal enterprises, apparently at least, do not seem to innovate in the way businesses are managed and products delivered.
